WIPjoy Wrap Up

9:00 AM

I did it!! I finished writing the first draft of my novel Cursed which I began writing way back in November 2015. To celebrate, I thought I'd share a little more about my novel with you by doing a recap of all my #WIPjoy tweets during June from Twitter. #WIPjoy is a series of month long daily prompts provided by Bethany A. Jennings (@simmeringmind) in which she encourages writers to share bits and pieces of their current WIP (work in progress).

Full disclosure: There were some days when I totally forgot to respond to the prompt and days I intentionally skipped because they didn't fit with my novel. Also, these are tweets (which are limited to 146 characters) so there may be text speak and abbreviations occasionally.

Day 1 Prompt: Tell us about your WIP!
YA Fantasy. Protagonist is a witch accused of casting killing curses. She must team up with a rival to catch the real killer.

Day 2 Prompt: Introduce your protagonist's awesomeness!
My protagonist, Cyndra, is a teenage witch who specializes in sleeping curses. She's cynical and has to learn to trust others.

Day 5 Prompt: The character you relate most to and why.
Felix. We'd both do anything for our family. I'd be unlucky enough to be turned into a raven too:)

Day 6 Prompt: A character who shares a flaw with you.
Cyndra and I can both be moody. We fall into slumps where we don't want to interact w/others.

Day 9 Prompt: Which character/s would you want to be roommates with?
I'd pick Jeanette as my roommate. She gives great advice and would make sure I don't kill off my plants like I usually do.

Day 10 Prompt: Share a line that makes you want to hug a character.
"If I don't use this sphinx feather to find my mother, I may never be able to find her."

Day 12 Prompt: Share a chapter beginning that you love.
Cyndra stood over her cauldron, a small pipette filled with a clear liquid held delicately with her pointer finger and thumb.

Day 13 Prompt: How do you want readers to view your protagonist at the beginning?–at the end?
Main character starts out morally gray. By the end, she has to make a firm decision on what type of person she wants to be.

Day 14 Prompt: Share a line where a character tries something new.
She lay down on the simple straw pallet and pretended to sleep while she secretly plotted how to escape her new prison.

Day 15 Prompt: What grabs you about your premise?
The MC makes and sells curses for a living. Also, she's a reluctant heroine.

Day 16 Prompt: What sticks with you about the ending?
I haven't written it yet, but what I have planned brings everything full circle.

Day 17 Prompt: At the end, how has your protagonist made you proud?
Yes, I am proud of my protagonist. Though she makes a lot of questionable decisions, she always comes through when it counts.

Day 18 Prompt: Share a chapter ending line that you love.
"Once I have the money to pay the rent I owe, I'll change you back into a human."

Day 20 Prompt: Share a line that mentions food.
Cyndra spent the next four hours devouring most of the cardamom crescents as she planned her assault on Gideon's home.

Day 22 Prompt: Share a line about smell.
They were alive but unconscious. A faint smell of poppy laced the air.

Day 23 Prompt: Is this a kissing book? :)
So far, I've kept the kissing to a minimum.

Day 24 Prompt: Tell us something your character would hate for us to know about them (mwuhaha!)
Cyndra would hate for you to know that she does care about people. She's so used to being on her own that she pushes away.

Day 28 Prompt: What do you want your future cover to look like? If you already have one, share it!
Maybe something a little like this?

Day 29 Prompt: What's the best thing people can say to you about this WIP?
I loved it and I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read your next one!

Day 30 Prompt: What are you planning for your next WIP after this one?
YA Fantasy. MC is a shapeshifter who has to hide her shifting abilities in order to train to become the next Vizier.

    1. Thanks, Cait! Day 18 was a lot of fun to write:) I celebrated by buying way too many books to reward myself for finishing a first draft. Then I dove right into writing my next project for Camp NaNoWriMo. *slides fork into a slice of cake* Thank you, don't mind if I do!
